The latest Styx Facebook Post....

"Did you see the karaoke battle between Jimmy Fallon and Emma Stone last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon? Jimmy selected "Mr Roboto" as one of his songs to lip synch! Watch it here: http://huff.to/1fpZTch ‪#‎MrRoboto‬ ‪#‎StyxKaraoke"

The hypocrisy is so thick you can cut it with a knife.....

Well, Styx had nothing to do with it. DDY had to grant the permission to do it (and confirms as such in his latest FB post). They can claim all they want, and that's fine. They benefit, too, so why not pimp it even if they hate the song? Sure, it's a bit hypocritical. But it puts asses in seats.

It all comes down too whether it does or has the potential to make $$. That's the bottom line.

yeah, I thought that was a bit disappointing too. They completely don't dig Roboto for years but then they jump on that.
Huge fan of Styx, but I didn't really think they should've done that - OR if they REALLY want to distance themselves from it AND be cool, they could've said something like "Styx was referenced on Jimmy Fallon with one of Dennis' biggest tunes, Mr. Roboto. Good on ya Dennis".

That woulda been cool of them.

Since they have basically stripped any reference to DDY from Styx I don't see them doing something like that.

yeah, I'm just saying that it would've been cool to do to prevent reactions like Tophs (which is legit). Even though Styx hates the Kilroy thing, to throw a bit of a crumb of goodwill to Dennis would've been cool for the fans of both camps. Personally, I don't think that Styx should've commented at all because they've gone out of their way to slam the song and period so much. Now, because in a moment of comedy, Fallon chose to pull that one out, all the sudden it's all "Ooh, he used OUR song" where before that, it was Dennis' song. I dunno. Love the band but wish they'd makes some better choices, that includes putting Dennis back on their site by the way.

That is my biggest beef - stop talking out of both sides of your mouth. Either you ignore Dennis and everything he stood for and all his hit records or you don't and you accept what he brought to the band. Not this one foot in the door, one foot out type of behavior. Either you hate Roboto and don't acknowledge it or you do. You don't hate it when its cool to hate it and love it when its cool to love it. That is...can I say it?...hip hop hippocrissy hip hop...

Yeah, quite being so hypocritical. Either you acknowledge Dennis and everything he brought to the band, or not. Either you can take the fact that the rest of the band was tired of his arrogant, self-righteous, "I deserve all the credit", "Styx is MY band", attitude and the band broke up because of it, or you can't. That is...can I say it?

Well, blind faith put you where you are now
You're a selfish old cow gettin' high on society's milk.
We pay your bills, life should be so tough.
You'd better watch your fat ass, 'cause we've had enough

I guess they had enough, huh? When are you gonna accept the full package?

As for Kilroy and Babe. It seems to me the band did not want the Styx soul to be defined only by those songs, and worked hard to ensure that did not happen. Yeah, I think they hated recording them. I think they hate playing them. But, I think they also know that Roboto has become a nostalgic throwback that many people can identify Styx with. They accept that, and even had Roboto as part of the Styx medley years ago. Their issue is to make it known that Styx is MUCH more then Roboto and Babe. If you don't also believe that about Styx music, then I have to question how much of your fandom is influenced by your obvious bitterness.

Ah, and BTW, I didn't know your name was "rich".

There are a couple problems with this...

Every time a 'crumb' of goodwill is throw by either side, it gets blown out of proportion and turns into rumors of a reunion. So, it's better to just not say anything.

As for the removing of "Dennis" from the website...everybody assumes it is to 'erase his name from Styx history." It is assumed because of the bitterness the FANS have. Back when Journey's website still had a forum (years ago) Steve Perry's lawyer's got all excited and started threatening every website that had "unauthorized images" of Perry. So, to avoid legal action, the Journey website did EXACTLY THE SAME THING as Styx did...in fact, you couldn't even post a picture on their forum unless the website approved it first. So, since Dennis ALREADY sued the band once, why would they NOT remove him from the website to avoid another lawsuit? It makes perfect sense to me..."Whah! Your portrayal of me is defamation of character, I'm going to sue! Whah! I did not authorize you to use that pic of me, I'm going to sue!" It's MUCH safer to not mention him AT ALL...and especially to not show any pics of him, that would just be plain stupid.

Ah, so that is how it works. Ok, cool.

I once heard that during Styx' first tour of Japan that Dennis was kidnapped by aliens and they replaced him with a Robot Monkey King clone. This is how the idea for Roboto originally came about.

Ahhh, thought you meant he commented on the removal of himself on the Styx page. Oh, well.

The marquee on the post below that one reminded me of the Marquee on BSG's "Full Circle" DVD and "The Original Voices of ??? ?????? ????? ????" That's what happens when people get sue happy:

I don't get why some think DDY should not have sued his former band mates when they forcefully ejected him. After all they refused to respond to his requests to discuss the situation. This was a business with legal contracts in which his partners violated terms of the contract. They basically forced his hand when they chose not to respond to him. He was protecting his part of ownership in the band. It's surprising to me that JY didn't go the lawyer route when they decided to boot DDY due to the fact that he seems to have a hair trigger when it comes to legal matters.

Styx absolutely did not make the wrong decision by firing Dennis. The mistake was not confronting Dennis, telling he is fired, and then negotiating him out of the band...the same way Journey did with Steve Perry. If Dennis refused his fate, then move on without him and force him to sue.

The issue with Dennis suing the band is all you whiners who follow your whiny leader. Dennis sued the band. That is not a lightweight move that is easily forgiven or forgotten. Whenever there is talk about the possibility of Dennis coming back, that fact is put way in the back of the closet.

In the example of BSG, Stephen Housden, who was not even an original member of the band, owns the Little River Band name which was backed up by a previous legal action. Do you think the sue happy Stephen Housden was quickly forgiven...hell now. Graham Goble even wrote a song about it...a pretty good one too. And, Roboto lokkalikes, too!

Like the owners of the Styx site did not want to be sued by Dennis for using his name and image in a way he did not approve of.
Like the settlement may have said Styx could not use Dennis name or image in anyway to promote the band.
Like somebody farted in the room and blamed Dennis.

The truth is limiting it to ONE invented story says more about the people promoting it then reality. All they are doing is projecting their own anger and angst for the band and using this as one more way to project it and vent it. it's not 'reality' is the made up fantasyland of dysfunctional Dennis fans who are Styx unfans.

I'm not one of those "unfans," I still listen to a lot of the current and old Styx music (I have "Yes I Can" on one of my mp3 players that I listen to). The lawsuit was about the band continuing on without him and misrepresentation, erasing him from the past of the band was unneeded and unnecessary since there is no mention of him ever being a member at all on the website.
