New Song With Perry

Postby JourneyHard » Thu Dec 04, 2025 4:12 pm

It is obvious that Perry won't tour with Journey even for the "Farewell Tour." However, maybe Steve Perry would do a new song with the band. Aerosmith and Yungblud have a new single and Steven Tyler only sings the intro. Maybe that is what Journey could do. Perry could just sing the intro and Pineda can sing the rest of the song. Perry doesn't even have to meet with anybody in the band. Just sing his part in his own studio and send it over the band to be mixed with the recording. Easy for Perry! And it is possible the song could be a big hit. Okay. Maybe not big hit. Minor hit. Ummm Some people might listen to it.

There is zero chance Perry just sings part of a song and does not have significant influence over the final product. And that is a good thing by the way. Because Perry is the greatest vocalist of our generation and a world-class songwriter and performer, people often forget that he is "the Michael Jordan of music" meaning that he always makes everyone around him better. So while the idea of him doing one more song with Journey for old times sake is an interesting idea that I'm sure would come out sounding great, there is no chance that he does this without being significantly involved / in control of such a project.

Forget it. Steve knows what kind of headache Schon is and wants no part of this train wreck

What's the point? Journey's last great record was Arrival and Perry's voice departed many years ago.

Perry's voice is and has been more or less shot for a long time now.

But Journey have had great albums more recently than Arrival.

Maybe Perry can do this that and the other with Journey is a non starter. He left in May, 1998 and won't even talk to them on the phone. The bridge is totally burned, other than appearing at the HOF and rock walk.
If he can't even return texts or calls because he's been pissed off about the band moving on almost 28 years ago, song writing , stage appearances, it's never going to happen. It's over. He won't even do a show for his own album that came out in 2018.

Perry’s voice is NOT shot. Different than when he was younger, yes, but his vocals on the remake of Faithfully were excellent and that song was only 1/2 step down from the original key and the same key he sang it in on the FTLOSM tour. The man can still flat out sing and I look forward to his next record which I expect in 2026

I think they’ve had good albums with some very good bits but their last great album probably was Arrival

Anyone can sound “good” on record. There is something in the quality/character of his voice that just doesn’t sound good now (to these ears). His voice sounds sorrowful, sad. Even on upbeat material. His new recording of Faithfully serves as evidence that some people don’t need a great voice to do great things (like Willie or even Bob Dylan) and some people do (Perry)…

As much as I would love to see this, there isn't a snow ball's chance in hell that that this happens. Perry seems content to sit in his home studio and put out mediocre Christmas albums.

Really wish people could just let this go. Perry wants nothing to do with the band and NS.

What part of every single thing he has done for the last 30 years is being misunderstood?
