This from Billboard.com:

Top 50 debuts this week include Van Zant's "Get Right With the Man" (Columbia) at No. 21 with 41,000; Robert Plant and Strange Sensation's "Mighty Rearranger" (Sanctuary) at No. 22 with 39,000; Spoon's "Gimme Fiction" (Merge) at a career-best No. 44 with 20,000; and Styx's "Big Bang Theory" (New Door) at No. 46 with 19,000.

The 18th Styx record to chart, it's also the band's highest charting release since "Caught in the Act" peaked at #31 in 1984.

Didn't "Edge Of The Century" chart higher tho? They had a #3 hit on that...... had to have charted pretty high.

Ok hold the phone.

I just looked on Billboard's top 100 chart for albums that ends May 21, 2005... and Styx is not on it... this is the album chart. Now sometimes this stuff is a week behind so I could be wrong... and I don't doubt what you're saying... I'm just looking for the evidence myself because...... well frankly I don't trust what people say on a forum lock, stock and barrel.

Looking at the band's listed above, this could be in the "Classic Rock" category or "oldies" (LOL) category and not the "main" Billboard chart.

The other Styx albums charted on the "current music" charts during those years.

That looks about right 20 thousand cds

Yes, 20,000 CDs sold the first week does seem right. That is a better first week then any Styx CD since 1984. Thank you very much.
The May 21st chart is from last week. Styx is on the Main Album chart for the week ending May 28th.

The new chart with Styx's debut is for the week ending May 28, which will be online tomorrow. It is for the Billboard Top 200 Albums, not for any other chart.

For crying out loud, Robert Plant doubled their sales.

Don't set the bar too low, bud. At this pace they'll be lucky to sell 50,000 as there will be a steep dropoff next week.

All this when they were practically giving the discs away for $8.

GREAT JOB STYX!!!!!!! 30 plus years in, and they have the 46th best selling CD in America. Thats TRULY awesome !!!

I wonder if you go back to 1975 and Equinox then subtract 30 years, if any bands, or singers form 1945 charted then!!!

FANTASTIC ACCOMPLISHMENT!!! Hopefully, this will help them when they come up with their next CD of all new material.

The low price is also a very good move. Look what Prince did by giving his CD away at concerts. Journey says they will now do this. Good marketing ploy!!

Has Dennis recently sold 19,000 CD's? This isnt to rip Dennis. But..... if he covered 'classic rock' songs of the 1960's and 19,000+ people purchased his CD dont you think this would help his sales on his next CD??

It is a smart ploy, whoever does it. Styx is getting radio play. I heard I Dont Need No Doctor , Summer In The City & Walrus on the radio. Remake or not this exposure does help future CD & concert sales.

If an act wants to be relevant in todays market, its a good ploy!!

The only problem I see comes from people like you who say "this won't even sell 10,000 cds" and then Styx DOUBLES THAT in the first week...and yet you still don't see how wrong you are.

The problem comes from people like you who spout that the CD has fizzled - and you are COMPLETELY wrong. You only say such things because that is what you WANT to happen. This is a strong CD, despite what you want to believe.

Styx is on the right track, people like you jumped the track at least six years ago.

MediaPlay was a good indicator of what was getting airplay. That translated into sales. Get over it...it happened.

Damn wrong Fox show. They sure as hell did have record charts back in 1975. Can you read and comprehend???? Billboard ??, but they sure as hell had charts. They had top 40's, top 100's etc... They even #1 records and albums. Didnt Best Thing peak at # 82??

Hey, while you guys are talking about Billboard (LOL), I thought I'd add this:

Rob Thomas recently made chart history as his first solo album, ...SOMETHING TO BE, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. This was the first time a male artist from a rock or pop group debuted at #1 with their first solo album since Billboard introduced the chart 50 years ago.

You guys can get all excited for this release, but truth be told this is on par for what other similar artists are doing... it's not bad... but it's not great either.
