Not impressive at all. Kiss debuted at #3 with Psycho Circus in 1998. <Evil Laugh>

LOL...that basicaly means that you didn't realize that: the label, radio, and retail would support the release. You were wrong.
Kudos to the label.

You guys can get all excited for this release, but truth be told this is on par for what other similar artists are doing... it's not bad... but it's not great either.

ROBERT PLANT sold twice as many CDs with nowhere near the promotion.
Last week Robert Plant was on David Lettermen and Conan O’Brian. That would be 3 to 4 times the exposure that Styx had maybe more!!!

Show Me the way hit #3 The cd EOTC did not make the top 40. I think it peaked in the 50's. -eric

They should only list cds that sell a min of 100 thousand units
A top 10 if you will.

It is off to a better start then EOTC with Dennis. But the question, the long run. EOTC went gold, riding on the charting of Show Me the Way. and the cd never made it into the top 50.-ERIC

Paradise Theater sold 3 million copies in 3 years! That is 1 million copies a year. Which is 83,333 a month. Put into weeks that is 19,231 copies per week! Granted that is an average of copies sold, and the cd did hit # 1. Just wanted to braek it down. Iam a Styx fan, and a Dennis Fan. I wnat to see both do good, and want to see both in concert. If this cd stayed around 50 for the next 3 years (which I do not think it will) It could have Pardise Theater sells without breaking the top 40.
My point is some out there thought the cd wouldnot even crack the top 100. They made to top 50! Be happy. It's not happened since 84! Styx and Dennis will never have the sells of the 80"s, wish they would, but not in todays market. Comparing sales from the 80's to todays is like comparing apples and oranges. It's not the same market, people and how the sales are tracked.

The May 28th Billboard album chart is now up. Styx is sitting at #46. One notch below Ludacris's The Red Light District( Great CD!!) and a notch above Daddy Yankee's Barrio Fino- another GREAT GREAT CD.

Congrats STYX!!!!!!! The last time an album of theirs was in the top 50 was Caught In The Act back in 1985 or 1986. I bet ol' Ludacris was on a breast back then, and some of the Daddy Yankees might not of even been in the states.

GREAT job STYX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, all things considered, #46 is pretty damn good. As someone else posted, Styx hasn't charted this high since "Caught In The Act". Even with two top 40 singles, "EOTC" only made it to #63..

I will admit, Dennis no longer being part of the equation is disappointing to me; he was probably about 60-70% of what made me a Styx fan. I never feel quite the same motivation to see a Styx concert these days, but this is the way it is, what can we do about it? Why not enjoy both camps? In the later years of Styx, they went very different directions; and with the split, both sides can now stretch out to their full potential. I'm not saying that one is right and one is wrong; and maybe Dennis was dealt a bad hand with the guys, but then again, I've never worked with Mr. DeYoung; and as much of a fan as I am, I have no idea how he might be to work with. Yes, I'd love to see a reunion concert; even if they don't ever compose another album together; but for now, I'll just take the best of both worlds.

Froy: You know your in trouble when a World Wrestling Champion sells more than you
Adam: Guess who kept the PENNY LANE/STRAWBERRY FIELDS single by the BEATLES out of the Number 1 slot in England? Englebert Freaking Humperdink.
You can be sure there’s a long history of geeks like Michael Jackson, Milli Vanilli, Vanilla Ice, Paul Abdul, etc., who’ve beat out your beloved Journey, Yes and Neil Diamond albums on the charts. And what does it matter? You’re still humming those Journey ballads today and Milli Vanilli no longer matter.

Froy: If 19000 cds gets you the 46 top selling record then there is a problem
It should not even be listed
They should only list cds that sell a min of 100 thousand units

Adam: Dude, I suggest you apply to become Editor of Billboard Magazine since you have such firm ideas about “what they should list” and how they should do it. You’re a regular cock-eyed wonder.

ChicagoSTYX: This is a big deal and if Dennis were ever to have anything close to this kind of success several people on this board would be wetting their pants!
IML: First off, Dennis is not using the name STYX so it would be like comparing apples and oranges.
Adam: No, ChicagoStyx was merely making a comment regarding album sales. If Dennis sold 19,000 copies (in 2005) he’d have reason to be happy.

IML: I would not be wetting my pants, however this news of 19,000 sales certainly got you wet. What a triumph!! ROTFLMAO.
Adam: Where do you come from? Do you know what a crowd of 19,000 would look like? This is NO BIG number to you, huh? You go on about how there are no Styx fans left AND THEN NINETEEN THOUSAND PEOPLE RUN OUT AND BUY THEIR RECORD.
Listen, it aint 1980, okay? This is a band whove been having a hard go even getting arrested in the music industry ever SINCE that era. I say bravo, when any act two decades past their peak moves product.

ChicagoSTYX: If I remember correctly weren’t you the one who said the Big Bang Theory wouldn’t make it into the top 100?
IML: Yea, that was before I knew they were going to promote the hell out of it and sell it for half price.
Adam: Oh, I see. You’re adjusting your claims.

Seems pretty obvious that even if Styx were to get to number ONE Froy & ItsMyLife would continue with detractions and excuses. Let’s see, “it’s only a cover album, it doesn’t count”, or “well, it’s not on A&M Records, so it doesn’t count”. How about “the charts lie”?

The game is: ANYTHING and EVERYTHING Styx does without Dennis will always suck to you two. Regardless of quality. Regardless of content. You’re all about a GRUDGE, and I really think carrying around that kind of anger is unhealthy AND pointless.

Here it is, a small victory for Styx, with people celebrating with goodwill on a Styx board, with you two compelled to piss on the parade. Have fun, you bitter geeks!

I am just posting info. Nothing more. I know 2 weeks ago, Styx was listed on radioandrecords.com as going for adds with I Don't Need No Doctor.

As of today, they have not hit the chart, and they are no longer listed as going for adds. Take that for whatever you will.

That is interesting sadie. I personally don't epect the label the stay behind the record for long actually. So I'm not too surprised.

Record companies are in the biz of selling records right? Would YOU invest YOUR MONEY on the career of an aging race horse who hasn't won a race in DECADES? Would you put your money in a bank that yields lower interest than the newer bank next door?

Ocaisionally there is a sustained career in rock. RunDMC brought back Aerosmith from the 'where are they now?' file. But nothing lasts forever. Styx(nor Dennis) just aint the youthful act they once were. It's Jimmy Eat World time, when you're talking about business and SALES.

Now does sales have ANYTHING to do with QUALITY? Anyone who thinks so is missing a historical perspective. Things that last don't always equate with sales.

I mean, Irene Cara sure sold alot of records once - she probably outsold Styx singles during her 15 minutes of Fame (pardon the pun). Do you miss her music?

Look, people asked for information. It was brought here 2 weeks back. I just did a follow up. Just like others will with the other charts.

I said nothing about quality or sustained sales. I happen to agree that quality is the main concern.

I do not wish a fight. I too, am totally sick of the mud slinging and baiting.

For the era they are in right now, their success, however long or short, is good for them. Success has different measurements. I've said all along, I think it is a success because it's what the band wanted to do, and they got it released. Any more, it's gravy.

Peace

Adam, you were pretty fast too - LOL

I agree with Sadie on the era that were in right now.

The music has changed pretty much since the 80's. It also seems that more and more people can somehow afford cd's now compared to when most of us were younger and trying to save up to by a record album.

In a related story (update on Friday), the Mediabase charts show a drop in the numbers on the BBT songs they are playing.

My guess is, some of this stuff will go up and down for awhile yet. Walrus dropped off the Mediabase chart and then came right back.

Personally I think they need to release one of the Tommy-led songs as a single next and support it with a video.

Give us all a break from Gowan...please! OK, give me a break from Gowan. I know he has a lot of fans here. :?
